One reason why looking at writing samples is important is that they will give an idea of how to present ideas, what to do and more importantly, what not to do. Here are some of the most commonly covered areas in IELTS and responses that have or that might easily qualify for a 9. Some tasks even come with trainer comments giving reasons behind a 9 band.

Sample 1: Writing Task 2(Opinion):

Today, many families find it necessary for both parents to go out to work. While some say the children in these families benefit from the additional income, others feel they lack support because of their parents' absence. What do you think?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples form your knowledge or experience.

Some people think that having a set retirement age (e.g. 65 years) for everybody, regardless of occupation is unfair. They believe that certain workers deserve to retire and receive a pension at an earlier age.

It is important for people to take risks, both in their professional lives and their personal lives. Do you think the advantages of taking risks outweigh the disadvantages?

This response will give you an idea of what it means to have good Lexical Resource. It is not about big words, it is about using words well, and using phrases and language flexibly and fluently.
