1. Benevolent

showing sympathy and understanding; kind; being favourable

Sentence: Mothers are the most benevolent of all.

Sentence: We though the teacher would be very strict, but he turned out to be benevolent.

Sentence: He was in a benevolent mood, so when the beggar came, he gave him money.

2. Blunt

Being direct. Coming right to the point. To reduce the sharpness of mind or of things

Sentence: He walked into the room, gave instructions and left. His blunt manner surprised everyone.

Sentence: Lack of sleep blunted his mind. He could not make quick decisions.

Sentence: His blunt manner is known to all. He does not even wish people.

3. Censorship

deleting parts of publications; restricting content for being displayed

Sentence: Many governments censor content on the internet.

Sentence: Movie directors want censorship to be removed.

4. Contract

become smaller; to come closer; to draw together.

Sentence: When exposed to the cold, metal will contract.

Sentence: My stomach contracted in fear.

5. Diligent

being careful and thorough; not missing duties; doing something regularly and consistently even if it is difficult.

Sentence: He was a diligent worker. He never made mistakes.

Sentence: He diligently cleaned the room each morning.

Sentence: All of us were giving diligent attention to our studies.

6. Embellish

add details to; decorate; to try to make something attractive

Sentence: When she saw her friends looking so interested, she embellished the story with more striking details.

Sentence: The curtain was embellished with tiny mirrors and gold tassels.

Sentence: The dress was embellished with small, red hearts, to fit the wedding’s theme.

7. Endure

undergo; be subjected to; to withstand; to face with courage; to survive

Sentence: The students had to endure harsh winters in the unwarmed hostel rooms.

Sentence: Indians are used to enduring harsh summers.

Sentence: I was not able to endure the lecture for more than 10 minutes

Sentence: Many believe God will help them endure difficulties

8. Fugitive

someone who runs away; an escaped criminal;

Sentence: The two lovers met in secret like fugitives.

Sentence: The fugitive was caught, punished and jailed two months after her escaping from jail.

9. Inexplicable

something that cannot be explained; something that does not make sense;

Sentence: All living things contain a some madness that cause them to act in strange, inexplicable ways.

Sentence: Many of the government's decisions are inexplicable.

Sentence: The behaviour of teenagers seems inexplicable to parents.

10. Intriguing

something that is interesting; something that arouses curiosity;

Sentence: I find astronomy very intriguing.

Sentence: The car had a very intriguing design.

11. Obscure

something that is hard to see; vague; to make something unclear or difficult to see; to hide; unknown

Sentence: We reached that place after driving through obscure forest roads.

Sentence: No homes can be seen from the road; tall bushes obscure the view.

Sentence: He comes from an obscure village no one even knows the name of.

12. Prod

to poke; to encourage; to push against; to urge

Sentence: We prodded the animals to keep moving, but they lacked the energy.

Sentence: The claps from the audience prodded the minister to stand-up and wave to the crowd.

Sentence: Every morning, our mother prods us to wake up and make our beds.

13. Torrent

a large number of; heavy rain; a very fast stream of any liquid

Sentence: The movie start got a torrent of messages on his birthday.

Sentence: After the heavy trains, many houses were washed away in the torrents of water.

Sentence: We could hear a torrent of shouts coming from the playground.

Sentence: There was a torrent of media coverage on the drug scandal.

14. Tranquil

peaceful; quiet; calm; serene

Sentence: One moment everything was tranquil, and the next moment people were in a panic.

Sentence: I went spent a year in the mountains, the tranquil environment calmed me.

Sentence: The setting sun made the tranquil surface of the water shine like a sheet of gold.

15. Wary

being alert and cautious; suspicious;

Sentence: The price was too low. This made her wary of the deal.

Sentence: The puppy was wary of the new surroundings. It did not move from the corner.

Sentence: If you know too much, that knowledge can make you wary.
